Make Saving Energy a Family Affair!

October is “Energy Management Is a Family Affair Month” ... and you and your family can do your part by practicing energy conservation together at home this heating season.

Everyone can get involved! Even the smallest children can learn to close the front door after they’ve come into the house or keep their toys from blocking the vents. You can even turn conserving energy into a fun game!

Here are four easy ways to conserve and save:

  1. Open curtains and blinds on your south-facing windows during the day to allow sunlight to naturally heat your home, and close them at night to reduce the chill you may feel from cold windows.

  2. Ensure furniture, rugs, curtains, and toys do not sit on top of floor grills or press against wall vents. and returns.

  3. Clean or change your furnace filter regularly during the winter (about every 4-6 weeks).

  4. When you are asleep or out of the house, turn your thermostat back 10° to 15° for eight hours to save up to 10% or more on your heating bills.
